Prince Tribute and EP Update

It was such a fun night last night at the Prince Tribute at the Beachland Ballroom with Tim Moon and Scarlet & the Harlots. The crowd was amazing. Their energy made it very memorable for us. Nothing like singing 'Rasberry Beret' with 400 people adding their voices to the chorus! It truly was a celebration!

We continue to get closer to completing our first EP and more importantly, the first single. We head back into 29D this month to record and finalize the single. Brian, Rob, Justin, and I are beyond excited…Read more

April 10th Update: Brent Kirby's 10x3 & Remix

As we continue to record songs for the upcoming EP, here is something a little different for you to enjoy this weekend.

Also, Brian and I will be playing at Brent Kirby's 10x3 this week at Musica in Akron on April 13th. This is a great night where local songwriters share their songs and continue to build community with each other and with you as the listener. We hope to see you there!

March 20th Update: Rob Wynne

In honor of his recent birthday (March 18th), I just wanted to publicly say 'thank you' to Rob Wynne for all of his propulsive drumming and musicality at our recent shows. Although it isn't talked about enough, a band really succeeds or fails in large part because of the quality of drummer in the band. We have been very fortunate to have Rob Wynne providing the energy for the Chestertons and we're looking forward to playing with him at all of our upcoming shows.

Although we've shared this demo before, here…Read more

March 6th Update: George's Lounge

I had a great time on Friday doing the solo set at George's Lounge in Canton. This is a great spot. I love 'community' bars, where people know each other by name and look forward to spending a Friday night together. My favorite part of the night was when the guy running the sound said, 'I've never hear anybody cover that song before.' He was referring to me opening the set with 'Lips Like Sugar' by Echo and the Bunnymen. It gave me a good laugh. I think next time I'll do 'Bring on the Dancing Horses' too.

February 26th Update: First Single

Brian has been diligently working in the studio on our first single. Our plan is to have our show at the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern on May 20th be our Single Release Party. All of us are very excited about how it is sounding and we think it will be a great way to lead into the release of the EP later in the summer. This month Justin and I will head into 29 Doors Studio to add our vocals and also add any other finishing touches. I know I am biased, but I think Brian's guitar is fantastic on the song. He…Read more

February 22nd Update: Malone University

We had a great time at Malone University in support of Rising Hope Canton. It was great to hear stories of hope and lasting change. Cities come alive when people never give up and believe in something greater than themselves. Brian, Rob, Justin, Denny and I were grateful to share a small part of their ongoing story.

Where the Streets Have No Name (U2)

In My Place (Coldplay)

Behind the Song: Heaven

As we continue to record songs for the new EP, I thought I'd share a few thoughts about some of the songs in the coming weeks. Here is the first installment.

'Heaven' is a lamentation, a song of sorrow and grieving. Loss is real. Endings are real. However, I have always believed that grief is not the absence of hope, but rather the 'hoping for hope'.

I don't dream of heaven anymore
All I do is stay awake
All I do is stay awake
I don't try to look into your eyes
All they do is haunt my soul
All they do

February 6th Update: Underneath Your Feet (Demo)

Here is another song from our most recent demo session entitled, 'Underneath Your Feet'. I had originally written this song for a friend of mine, but lately it has taken on a more universal meaning for me. I want to be able to love the unlovable. I want to learn to offer forgiveness in the face of wrong and hate. I want to, as the old song says, 'study war no more' in my own life and heart. I hope you enjoy this rough sketch of the song.

January 31st Update: Waiting for the End (Demo)

Brian and I have been actively planning the sessions for our debut EP. As part of this, we have been recording demos with the band and working out arrangements in the live setting. This method makes it more organic and vulnerable and really captures the 'essence' of the song. We would like to give you a 'sneak peak' into this process and share one of our demos for 'Waiting for the End'. This song has been the closer at most of our recent shows and is really beginning to take shape. Justin Hartman, Rob…Read more

January 23rd Update

Brian and I are excited to be a part of Brent Kirby's 10x3 Songwriter Showcase at Musica in Akron on January 27th. This is a great opportunity for local songwriters to come and share their songs as well as foster community with each other and those who so faithfully support live music. We are grateful that Brent Kirby has created these events and is tireless in his support of local musicians and their art.

An added benefit of this particular 10x3 event is that everyone performing that night will sing a song…Read more

January 14th Update

On a cold and snowy night in Cleveland Heights, the Chestertons performed a memorable set at the Grog Shop along with Bryan Karas and Lower Middle Management. A special heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to hear the warm hum of the electric guitars and experience the joy of live music. Each performance is a journey and the Chestertons are very grateful for the love and support they received last night. For those of you who were not able to join us last night, here is the set list:

Heaven
